Rocky Mountain Raceway had hundreds of racers out Saturday to test their cars before the official racing season begins in May. Because the first racing opportunity of the year usually doesn't happen until later in April, this is one of the earliest events ever.

"It’s the first event of the year to race our cars and I’m just happy to be back.”said Jesse Rogers, a racer from Kaysville. “Many of us are here to see if the changes we made to our cars over the winter made a difference,”

Some racers came out to the racetrack with no changes being made to their cars during the off-season.

“I'm just here to knock the rust out of the car and to knock the spiders out of me,” said Vince Brown, a racer from Clinton. “The car is the same as it was last year. I just need some seat time to get back into the swing of things.”

Ty Jacobs, a racer from Tooele, came out to the track for a different reason.

“I’m just looking forward to the season starting,” Jacobs said. “I love being at the track and love racing. I broke a few things at the end of last season but that’s just part of it.”

Every racer who came out to the first event had one thing in common: A passion for racing.

“It’s the most fun you can have with your clothes on,” Brown said.
