Carvention, a car show beginning at noon Friday, is focused on old cars and the people who own them.

LeRoy Ryan, a participant in Carvention with his wife’s 1938 Buick, is very loyal to promoter and presenter JC Hackett.

“We all know JC,” Ryan said. “We are here to support him. He has done so much for the car community, and his whole crew is very nice.”

Ryan said his love of old cars and the opportunity to meet the people who own them is also important to him.

West Jordan resident Doug Beckstead, is attending the show to support Hackett. It is also something that his family enjoys doing together.

“We go to car shows all over the valley,” Beckstead said. “We know JC and like to support him. We also do our own car shows to help donate money to the same charity that he does.”

Andy Douros, another first year attendee, has a different outlook about the cars on display.

“You might see something here you want to do on your own car,” Douros said. “Everything here has its place. How can you go wrong?”

Val Mullinay, a resident from Orem, came to the event to see the cars on display.

“I’m just interested in cool cars,” Mullinay said. “I like drivers, but I’m really interested in old trucks and station wagons.”

Carvention begins on Friday at noon and ends at 5p.m. on Sunday in South Jordan.
