Portfolio Exibit #2

In this photo the car is set apart from the background to emphasize its importance in the shot. The background is beautiful but the focus needs to be around the car.  I started with color correction in camera raw to make the colors more vibrant. Then I imported it into Photoshop and and used the quick mask to choose the car and then cleaned up the little bits around the edge. Then I changed the coloring in the background separate from the car and finished it off.

Exhibit #1

In this first example I show the major changes that can be made to a simple photo and make huge differences in dark areas and shadows as well as making the colors more vibrant to make even a cell phone picture much better with a little bit of work. I also cropped the image to get rid of the truck on the outside of the photo.

Exhibit #3 USU Stars Digital Display

This is a motivational poster to encourage high school students to continue their education after they graduate. I used multiple layers in Photoshop and some simple color correcting to clean up the track surface of debris and unwanted paint marks. I then used contrasting text to emphasize the importance of what is being read as well as different angles on the text.

Exhibit #4: I started off editing this picture in camera raw with color adjustments and sharpening before I started changing it in Photoshop. I think it is a good example of the progress from old to new with the rust on the concrete representing the age of the car along with the black and white background with a small portion of the photo being in color to show the transformation of the car from old to new. There is a strong contrast between some coloring as well as angles in the picture but I tried adding a few different types of texts in different spots and nothing seemed to fit very well with the photo so I left it all out. The front side of the car is close to the camera while the rest of it is slowly getting further away and that is why I transition it into black and white as it gets further away.

Exhibit #5: I started off with some simple color enhancement and correction in camera raw to bring out different colors and calm some down a little so the text I was going to add would be easier to focus on. This is a poster design for The University of Utah's UCET conference. It took time to find an image that had to do with technology that I could use for this size of poster. I used different tools in Photoshop to manipulate the image size and the text color, position and sizes for the poster as well as the insertion of multiple layers and pictures on the same page. It is a fairly simple poster but I think the text and background get the point across that this is a tech conference and that they want the focus to be the people attending.

Exhibit 6: This is an example of a double sided business card. I started off in camera raw and bridge with color correction of the images, then I moved to Photoshop and used layers, adjustments, and text to emphasize different parts of the business card. I used repetition and contrast to draw attention to certain parts of the text such as the title, phone number and name. I think the business card needs more of something. I'm not sure what but it's just a little too simple. Simplicity is good, but this card could use a little more to draw attention to it.

Portfolio Exhibit #7: In this photo I started off with simple color correction in camera raw to get the colors where I wanted them, then I wanted to try something new called the dispersion effect. It was my first try and it took a long time to get the photo where it is at, but there is a lot of repetition involved and a lot of changes in brush tools and blending to make it work. It isn't the best piece I've done but it shows the power of dispersion and what you can do with it.

Portfolio Exhibit #8: I started off this project with a photo of a person that I used simple color correction to enhance. Then I imported it into Photoshop and went to work putting in different layers and effect to get multiple layers and different brushes and tools to show someone behind a mask. It shows the power of Photoshop's many brushes and effects in conjunction with layers to emphasize something. There are multiple layers in this photo as well as a lot of repetition with different brushes and contrasts to try and draw attention to certain spots of the photo.

Portfolio Exhibit 9: In this project I took an existing poster and modified it. I Started off first with the idea to move the text in the blue section around and rearrange it so that Utah State's logo is a bigger focus over the normal text so that it could grab someones attention better. It is a little rough on the blue color match as that is something I was still working on learning. I also deleted the text boxes in the top and bottom of the flyer so they read something different. I wanted potential students to focus on that first. I matched the blue color of the text to the background blue of the poster, and I included the more important things about the poster.

Exhibit #10

This is the last exhibit of my Photoshop portfolio. It shows a lot of different steps taken, as well as multiple layers to emphasize the text around the picture. I started off making a few minor color corrections in camera raw to bring up the reds in the photo. Then I duplicated the layer and created another layer between for the text. Then I spent a while choosing the correct text that would reveal the most important part of the photo. I used multiple styles to enhance the text including a gradient, drop shadow and a few other small changes to make the text stand out. After it was finished I messed around with the opacity of the text and the top layer to get it right where I wanted it. I had just the text revealing the car behind it but decided to bring up the full background to about 75% opacity to show the Dodge Demon logo just sightly to enhance the overall look of the picture. I also cropped the entire photo and realigned the text multiple times until it was just right.
